Music shapes who we become

+22%

better reading skills

Research suggests that in infants aged 7 to 9 months, exposure to musical rhythms enhances the ability to discriminate linguistic patterns, thereby supporting early language acquisition.

+30%

positive social interaction

Engaging in group music-making fosters social sharing, interaction, and social coordination in young children.

+20%

better motor coordination

In toddlers aged 1–4 years, moving in rhythm with music is associated with improvements in gross motor coordination and hand–eye synchronization.

+30%

self-regulating behaviors

Musical routines are widely used in early childhood education because they support affective self-regulation, helping children calm themselves and regulate their emotions.

ECOLE KOENIG DISCOVERY GROUP
Where your child’s early years become their lifelong advantage

Our science-backed program

Babymusicking ™

Created by Joan Koenig, this groundbreaking program draws from 35 years of pedagogical experience and the latest research in child development. Babies and caregivers explore rhythm, melody, and movement in a shared, immersive musical experience that supports brain development and deepens musical sensitivity from the very start.

First Steps

A creative, engaging class where children build foundational rhythmic and melodic skills through song, movement, and improvisation. This is where their musical vocabulary begins to grow- playfully, expressively, and at their own pace.

Discovery Groups

Children are introduced to the major instrument families—strings, winds, and percussion—through guided exploration and ensemble play. They begin developing musical preferences, listening skills, and the experience of making music as a group.

Me&My Instrument

In this final step before entering our Core Musical Curriculum, children choose their first instrument and begin small-group training with a focus on ear development, technique, and expressive performance. It’s the perfect bridge from discovery to disciplined study.

The Koenig approach

A fundamental language

From the very first moments of life, the child relates to the world through sound, rhythm, and intonation. This first exchange is profoundly musical.

A decisive period

Between birth and the age of six, the child's brain undergoes a phase of exceptional plasticity. Music and language engage shared neural circuits, and early musical exposure refines these structures. Offering a living musical experience from the earliest years makes it possible to establish solid foundations for future development.

A living musical experience

No recorded music is used. Each session relies on the presence of an accompanying pianist, allowing constant adaptation to the group and to each child. Only the presence of a live musician allows a true co-construction of music with the child.

Pedagogical rigor

Musical practice impacts cognitive, emotional, and social development. Each session is part of a structured progression, offering a stable and secure framework.

The role of rhythm and movement

The perception of rhythm is linked to language, reading, and coordination. Movement is integrated from the very beginning.

A shared experience

From our Babymusicking™ classes with the presence of parents to our Me & My Instruments ensembles where children play music together, music helps strengthen the social bond.

The Musical Child

Since opening her famed Parisian conservatory over three decades ago, Joan Koenig has led a global movement to improve children’s lives and minds with the transformative power of music. With a curriculum and philosophy drawn from cutting-edge science, L’École Koenig has educated and empowered even its youngest students—from baby Max, whose coordination and communication grow as he wiggles and coos to targeted songs and dance routines, to five-year-old Constance, who nourishes her empathy, creativity, and memory while practicing music from other cultures. In The Musical Child, Koenig shares stories from her classrooms, along with tips about how to use the latest research during the critical years when children are most sensitive to musical exposure and most receptive to its benefits.

Our child really enjoyed the Discovery Workshops. They’re a great way for children to discover different instruments before choosing one.

Jesse N.

The trial class on Saturday was fantastic and Pia absolutely loved it! As we were leaving, she turned to me on the stairs and said, ‘I want to come back.’
