Music cognition experts define musical improvisation as one of the most creative and extraordinary human capabilities — it requires rapid synapse-firing, supremely focused presence and deep intuition. Music theory in jazz is a specific approach to learning the written language of music, and is equally as demanding as classical music theory.
Our program features weekly half-hour individual lessons (45 minutes or even 60 minutes for more advanced students) and a one-hour Jazz & Rock Ensemble class.
L'Ecole Koenig was the first music school in Paris to open a jazz department for children in 1994. The school was also the first in France to organize public jazz masterclasses for promising young French musicians in partnership with the City of Paris Bureau of Cultural Affairs. Our guests included Herbie Hancock, Michel Petrucciani, John Scofield, and Branford Marsalis.
We encourage motivated students to prepare for the RockSchool exams, held at our school each year in June. If you wish to find out more about the Rockschool exams, please visit the RockSchool website.
