Vanina de Franco
Vanina de Franco is a French singer, pianist, writer and composer of Italian origin.
Having followed classical piano training at the Conservatoire of Bourgoin-Jallieu (France), Vanina devoted herself to jazz singing from the age of 19. Alongside her appeared Jean-François Rouchon (CRR Lyon) and Sara Lazarus (Bill Evans Piano Academy). She also studied Harmony and Jazz Composition at the Bill Evans Piano Academy.
An expressive singer, and generous in the human sense, Vanina started jazz singing for the rhythmic and hormonic freedom provided through such a medium. Then, on stage, and in the contact with other musicians and the public, she developed a vocal technic founded on the body and movement, in order to avoid being trapped by imposed borders, erected by too rigid esthetic criteria.
A stage artist, Vanina appears often on stage and in jazz and singing festivals, in France and overseas (Duc des Lombards, Small’s Jazz Club, La Cigale, Printemps de Bourges, Jazz In Marciac…).
She performs within eclectic groups: her personal jazz project, « chanson jazz » ; Les Voice Messengers, a famous vocal French big band; « Gainsbourg… Moi non plus », paying tribute to Serge Gainsbourg with Stéphane Cochet (piano), Sébastien Giniaux (guitar), François Merville (drums) and Emek Evci (bass); and as a guest in jazz and swing orchestras: Samy Daussat quintet, The Dusty Bottoms…
Her first album of jazz song, « HyperCardioïde », that she wrote and composed, was released in 2018 and received an excellent reception from the press, among which « fff » in the French Télérama.
In a parallel fashion, she regularly takes part in academic programs as a singing professor: in primary schools with the SACEM, in prisons with the association Champ Libre, occasionally at the IMEP Paris College of Music, but also in private tutorials.
Vanina is also a vocal coach: for artists who perform on stage,
at La Manufacture Chanson, or to accompany oral presentations
in businesses, with Medias Uniques.
